I'm still desperately in need of ideas for how to improve the site. Suggestions, anybody?

The site experienced a lot of downtime over the last few days. This was due to an unannounced and unexpected server move. Server moves always go horribly wrong.

Things should be working fine now (as much as things 'work' on this site), if you are having any problems loading pages or the forums try emptying your browsers cache.

And how are you all doing, anyway?

Our next can of worms might come to us in the form of a discussion on being vegan or vegetarian. It's good to see some people getting involved and talking about things in the previous topics.

Although I don't think there is any doubt to the fact that being a vegan or vegetarian are not inherently precepts of straight edge, I'm sure most would agree that straight edge and vegetarianism (etc.) do share some form of 'link'.

Perhaps the question should be, then: What is it about straight edge that leads such a disproportionate amount of such people to be vegan/vegetarian as well as being straight edge?

Coincidence? Or is it a logical next step in the process?

Or, for that matter, what are your thoughts on being vegan, or vegetarian? From a lot of the e-mails I get, I think that there is undoubtedly still a lot of misinformation about vegetarian based diets even within the straight edge community.

Are you a vegetarian or a vegan? Why, or why not?

I know that I for one would probably have never encountered veganism as a valid lifestyle if not having been introduced to it via the plethora of straight edge people I knew that were also vegans.

What's your take on the issue?

Just trying to come up with a few related topics that may be worth talking about at some stage or another. What are some issues you think relate to straight edge?

Straight edge and violence, straight edge and hardcore, a casual drink now and then, straight edge and sex, straight edge and veganism, potential health benefits of some alcohol, what about weddings? You get the idea.

What other topics relate, or can relate, to straight edge?

I'd like to present you all with a can of worms, to liven the news posts up a little hopefully. Does one need to be involved in hardcore to be straight edge? Yes, no? Why, why not? If yes, to how much of a degree?

Some argue one is straight edge only as long as they are actively involved in straight edge, some say you just need to know about the history and hardcore culture, while some go so far as to say that any involvement of hardcore is entirely unnecessary.

What do you say?
